Classic Movie Club by Spits

My patron gave me a list of classic movies that I should see to "complete my education" ;). CWTyger suggested that I post the list in case anyone else wants to join 'Spits' Classic Movie Club'! CW came up with the name and because he too is going to try to watch a few of these, I thought it'd be fun to draw both of our characters enjoying a movie! My list of movies to see/seen can be found at my LJ here: http://silverspitfire.livejournal.com/327034.html

Medium: Pencil, Adobe Photoshop
Tags: wolves Tiger wolf tigers cwtyger spits
Bright Eyes by Spits

I was driving home the other night with my iPod on shuffle when the song 'Bright Eyes' by Art Garfunkel started playing (from the animated version of Watership Down). It was a beautiful, clear night and I was inspired to go home and paint a sunset (one of my favorite things to paint)...this actually started as a speedpaint but soon turned into something more substantial.

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Tags: rabbit FanArt Watership Down rabbits
Guys, wait up! by Spits

This was originally one of the ideas for Huskyteer's commission before we settled upon the final design ('Tales of the Northern Lights'). I found the sketch, tweaked it a little, slapped on some color, added a texture (http://hibbary.deviantart.com/art/paper-textures-75974801) and called it done.

Spitfire and her teammates race ahead, unaware that one of their fans has tagged along until he calls out 'Guys, wait up!'.

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Tags: dog dogs sled spitfire
Flightless Bird by Spits

Just a bit of art therapy...haven't drawn much in a while :/.

"I was a quick wet boy
Diving too deep for coins
All of your straight blind eyes
Wide on my plastic toys
And when the cops closed the fair
I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map
And called for you everywhere

Have I found you?
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping
Or lost you?
American mouth
Big bill looming

Now I’m a fat house cat
Cursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats
Curl through the wide/white fence cracks
Kissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold and clean
Blood of Christ mountain stream

Have I found you?
Flightless bird, brown hair bleeding
Or lost you?
American mouth
Big bill, stuck going down"

Chimp Sketches by Spits

Just felt like drawing something different...I have an idea for a picture drawn from a line from one of Beck's songs (great way to break an art block), but it involves drawing primates...with which I have no experience. I'm going to need more practice (especially with hands, dear God), but this was fun.

Photo references most definitely used.

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Tags: chimp chimpanzee chimps
MS Paint Sangilak by Spits

I'm not sure what motivated me to do this, but I felt like drawing something completely in MS Paint (save for when I got rid of the "sketch" layer in Photoshop).

It's none other than Sangilak looking kinda moody for...some reason.

Christmas Card 2007 by Spits

It's done *collapses*. I'm not entirely happy with this, but it is what it is - I kinda ran out of time this year to finish my family's Christmas card. I had the worst art block and for the life of me couldn't figure out what to do...of course now I have another (and better) idea, but I'll save that for next year.

Special thanks to OzyOxy, Huskyteer, Wendy, Pardo, and gorengal of LJ for helping and encouraging me along the way! Thanks again, everyone - I really appreciate it :).

Happy holidays!

I tried Shayde's "paper look" with this...it was fun and I think I'll have to experiment with it a little more!

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Tags: raccoon christmas raccoons
Quietly by Spits

A quiet moment shared by Duke and Adlai near the crime scene.

I wanted to have this done for the first night of Hanukkah as a present for my dear friend, Endless Night...happy holidays :).

Duke and Adlai (c) Endless Night.

I wanted to go for a painterly look when it came to the background...I absolutely love painting sunrises and sunsets.

*needs to work on hands* This was a good challenge for me as I don't draw anthros (with significant human characteristics) all that often...thanks EN for suggesting this and I really hope you like it!

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Tags: night dog lynx adlai endless duke
HOHAHA #1 - Lab Partners by Spits

Oh, lab partners...

I think reading webcomics - mainly rockerbot27's (http://community.livejournal.com/ascommentary/ - if you're not subscribed to read it already, you should be!), PHD Comics (see http://www.phdcomics.com/comics.php), xkcd (see http://xkcd.com) and the amazing Lackadaisy comic (see http://www.lackadaisycats.com/) - inspired me to try this.

I highly doubt this is going to be a regular thing, but it might be a fun way to deal with lab horror stories ;).

HOHAHA = Homonuclear Hartmann-Hahn Spectroscopy, a NMR experiment...my spectroscopy class is currently giving me grief, hence the title. I have no idea if it will stick or what I'll do with this, but it's all in good fun :).

Medium: Adobe Photoshop
Tags: comic lab Science chemistry spits hohaha partners
Civil Twilight by Spits

Holy crap, art!

Anyway...whenever I have a "new" favorite song, I tend to listen to it on repeat. Currently, it's 'Civil Twilight' by the Weakerthans and it served as the inspiration for the picture.

Why I felt the need to do the background using only the marquee tool to create shapes (and then modifying them as necessary via free transform) and gradients is beyond me...but it was fun :).

Still no names or back stories for these characters yet...

Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS2
Tags: dog life dogs city twilight civil canines
